In one of the busiest weekends of the year, the Fourth Friday Artwalk will coincide with the Sisters Folk Festival. Galleries participating in the Artwalk will be open all day, with featured artist events beginning at 3 p.m. Some galleries may close at 6 for visitors to attend the Folk Festival, where music starts at 6 p.m. and continues through the weekend.
GALLERIES
The Campbell Gallery, located at Sisters Folk Festival headquarters, will not be open during the Artwalk. However, there is a wonderful exhibit of work by Anastasia Zielinski that is showcased for viewing through October. Created in plein-air oil pastel and expanded through larger gouache and oil paintings in the studio, the work reflects the artist’s growing relationship with Central Oregon.
Hood Avenue Art features four artists. Karin Harris is fascinated by the dance of color, light, and shadows found in landscapes, and so she paints. A graduate of Southern Oregon University, she has taught art, owned a gallery and studio in Portland, and led worldwide art and cultural tours. Sculptor Alisa Looney shapes and fabricates metal into open, flowing forms that portray movement and the expression of life. Each sculptural piece is plasma, laser, and/or flame cut from steel, bronze, or stainless, then ground, sanded, hammered and welded. Narrative details are made possible by kiln-fired layers of glass and enameling techniques to create drawings and paintings on the surface of metal sculptures. Art Blumenkron has been dabbling with wood working since he was a teen. As the owner of Goby Walnut in Portland, he set up a proper wood shop, but spent most of his time processing wood for sale instead of making things. Since moving to Sisters for semi-retirement in 2016, he has an excellent wood shop dedicated to making fine furniture from Northwest hardwoods like live edge walnut, white oak, big leaf maple, madrone, ash, elm and myrtle wood. Sandy Dutko paints primarily with water media combined with other techniques to obtain unique textural effects. Her work varies from semi-abstract to pure abstraction, depending on the mood and subject matter. She’s a firm believer that taking risks leads to more interesting art.
The Rickards Gallery’s Garth Williams delivers Aspen light, trout water, and the high country in oil. His palette knife technique creates eye-catching aspens and dramatic landscapes, building up the paint and then cutting it away. He studied impressionism under Robert Moore, and paints so that the brushstrokes resolve only when you step back. Garth grew up in Helena, Montana and learned the outdoors on a trout stream. The best time to fish is in the fall when the streams are low and clear, and the autumn colors are spectacular. Each time he paints fall aspens, many special memories come to mind.

Sisters Gallery and Frame features The Many Faces of Paper. Deb Fisher’s Nature Spirit Mask Series features papier mache masks inspired by historic photos from around the world, and from her dreams. The masks are decorated with handmade paper, fabrics, plant fiber, rocks, and shells. Linda B. Wolff’s work begins with white tissue paper and are transformed into colorful and textured mountains, rivers and abstracts. Both artists will be at the gallery during Artwalk, but the gallery will be closing at 6 p.m. this month.
The Stitchin’ Post unveils “Color in Motion” from Central Oregon Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA). Artists created quilts that explore natural or man-made patterns using color, contrast or value to suggest movement and fluidity.
Toriizaka Art presents new landscape paintings by internationally acclaimed artist Lim Khim Katy. Katy, a Cambodian-Vietnamese painter with more than two decades of experience, is celebrated for her figurative works that capture the resilience of everyday life as well as her vibrant landscapes that radiate tranquility and imagination. Her art has been exhibited worldwide in museums and galleries across Asia, Europe, and North America, earning her numerous awards, permanent museum collections, and an international reputation for technical mastery and emotional depth.
Wildflower Studio features paintings by Sandy Melchiori, a local oil painter and who has recently painted in a plein aire event in Joseph and the Wallowa Mountains. Sandy will be on hand to talk about her newest work and her adventures in Northeastern Oregon.
BEYOND GALLERIES
ArtWalls update: The Hub will not be open on Fourth Friday because the space is serving as the Green Room for the Folk Festival. The current show features works by Diane Goble and Cat Connor. Sisters Bakery is featuring Gloria Enchanted, who is presenting Halloween and other themed art through the end of October. Fika Sisters presents new watercolors, linoleum prints and skateboards by Sisters artist Andrew Loomis. The Barn showcases black-and-white and colored prints by Mark Seekins..
QUICKDRAW
QuickDraw: At the close of the Artwalk, a drawing will e held for two $50 gift certificates, good at any participating gallery. Visitors may sign up once per gallery. The Clay Collective will not be open during the September 25th Artwalk due to the traffic impacts of the Sisters Folk Festival. They will be back for the Artwalk in October.
