Sisters Arts Association’s Fourth Friday Artwalk takes place this week, and it’s also Arbor Day. As trees are planted, or begin to bud, in Sisters, it’s a great time to gather with friends and walk through local galleries. Artists will be on hand to discuss their work, and light refreshments will be served between 4 and 7 p.m. in most galleries. Here’s what’s happening:

GALLERIES

Hood Avenue Art features metal and sculpture artist Breezy Anderson, painters Anne Gibson and Patty Freeman Martin, and bead jeweler Karen Evans. Each artist will showcase a curated selection of their work, reflecting the diverse range of styles, perspectives, and creative voices in Central Oregon. The gallery will also host the musical talents of The Riverstones, a local folk band mixing Americana grit with Celtic melodies.

The Rickards Gallery’s featured artists are Chris Warren and Leslee Burtt. For nearly 40 years, Leslee and her longtime friend and business partner, Chris, have been handcrafting unique baskets and gourd art in the Portland area. They have sold at the Rickards Gallery for 26 years. They are known for their intricate pieces that blend natural materials like seagrass, reed and cedar bark into the weaving. They also work with hard shell gourds, which are dyed, pine needled and finished with semi-precious stones. They are seasoned artists whose work has graced numerous art galleries and shows and also appeared in the book, “500 Baskets.”

Sisters Gallery and Frame features the semi-abstract and natural work of Diane Farquhar Hallstrom of Sisters. While nature is often a subject of her paintings, she also loves to create abstracts, combining both. The gallery also has new work by printmaker Danae Miller, oil painter Lynn Brush, and modernists Lee Morrison and Kathleen Branch.

The Stitchin’ Post presents “A Journey Through Time” by the Journeys Art Quilters. As we travel around the world or around our country, images remain in our mind about those trips. These artists have translated their journeys into textile art presenting many favorite places and times in this collection. They are: Betty Gientke, Judith Beaver, Donna Rice, June Jaeger, Helen Bishop, Marion Shimoda,  Jan Tetzlaff, Martha Sanders, Jean Wells and Mary Stiewig.

Toriizaka Art presents several new works by ceramicist Peter Roussel. Peter works with clay as an act of recollection and devotion. His work, informed by decades of study with potters across countries and cultures, reflects a quiet mastery rooted in tradition yet guided by an unmistakably personal voice. Each vessel and sculptural form carries a sensitivity to balance, texture, and the interplay of light—inviting not only the eye, but the hand. His surfaces speak of the earth from which they come, and of the many histories held within it. For Peter, clay is a connection between past and present. His work is designed to be felt as much as it’s intended to be seen, and he hopes that his pieces resonate a quiet, enduring presence.

Wildflower Studio will feature glass and gifts. Stained glass artist Mitch Saba is showing both fish and mountain landscapes. Edie Shelton has both glass kitchen items and wall hangings. The Studio is newly stocked with jewelry, skincare, diffusers and candles, and new art prints and cards by local artists.

The Campbell Gallery will not be open during Artwalk this month, but will feature the Sisters High Schools Student Art Showcase in May.

QuickDraw: At the close of the Artwalk, a drawing will e held for two $50 gift certificates, good at any participating gallery. Visitors may sign up once per gallery. Winners will be notified by phone and email, so it is important that all fields be complete.  Thanks to Susan Bird and Stellar Realty Northwest of Sisters for their generous sponsorship.
