Raina Verhey

Raina Verhey is an oil painter based out of Bend, Oregon specializing in high desert and red rock landscapes. Heavily impasto-style brush strokes seek to emulate rock and desert brush, calling the senses to a place of deep quiet. Painting what is sacred, holding space for what is nuanced, leaning into the tensions of what we see versus what we sense, seeking the stories we have almost forgotten -through oil and dirt.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Verhey moved West in 2014, landing in Oregon in 2019 when she started painting consistently. Over the years, her work has moved from highly abstract themes into bold landscape impressionism, informed by many pilgrimages to the desert regions and a deep connection to the land. Currently she paints off of plein air studies and photagraphs she has taken during scouting expeditions and out of the windows of f a st moving cars.
