Rae Holton

Rae Holton, a fifth generation Central Oregonian, was born and raised in Oregon among a family of Artisans. Experimenting in a wide variety of media throughout her younger years, she has come to find an affinity for elements of the earth and media born through fire. Rae works primarily in clay, stone and metals, though you will find some of her work in a wide variety of media as dictated by the piece.

The swirling and flowing shapes and designs you see in Rae’s work are a reflection of her strong connection to the natural elements and the way energy moves. Rae states, “I am a student of energy. I find that the elements guide me and that I am merely the tool through which the form is manifest. I am entranced by the rhythm and flow of all things in nature; plants and trees, oceans and streams and all of the energetic elements of our earth. My fascination with the patterns of energy is a result of the way I literally see the world. My work is the representation of this vision of flowing energy depicted in physical form.”

Rae has studied in Oregon, California, and Arizona, completing studies in raku, saggar, and pit fire techniques under Rico Piper, renowned potter and raku master, and studies in sculpture and 3D design under Dick Marcusen, master sculptor. Her work has shown and sold in museums, galleries, juried competitions and art shows across the western states and is in private collections around the world. Rae owned and operated Fire and Mud Studios in San Marcos CA where she taught classes and created sculptural and functional forms, before selling her business and moving home to Central Oregon. Currently, she is creating new and exciting works and collaborations from her studio in Prineville and working to create a community based group, Makers of Central Oregon, to bridge the gap between makers and our community.

“Creating is my passion. As I strive for the most effective way to express my vision, I am continually pushing the limits of my media. As a result, I am continually broadening the realm of possibility. Life is Art. Dare to sculpt your dreams!”
