Time for something new, so the Artwalk in Sisters will be a little different today.
It’s not politics, but voters in Sisters Country are heading to the ballot box at the Sisters Library. Voting ends today for this year’s People’s Choice Awards at the library’s Artist Reception at the Annual Art Exhibit. This is a lively event sponsored by the Friends of Sisters Library. Results will be announced during the reception in the library from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with hors d’oeuvres and beverages.
The Artwalk starts at 4 p.m., so you’ll have time to visit galleries. We recommend you start at the Art Works building on Adams Avenue for an engaging visual arts look at 100 years of Sisters history. This is a wonderful mini-museum exhibit created by the Three Sisters Historical Society. “This is a start on what we hope will become a permanent museum, when we have our own space,” according to Karen Swank, secretary of the Historical Society. Take the Vintage Kitchen Tool Challenge. Guess what they are, and how they were used. Did you know that Sisters was once the potato capital of Oregon, with 5,000 acres devoted to the crop?
On Hood Avenue, the official Arts District of Sisters, there will be a few galleries closed for the evening in honor of the community art show at the Sisters Library. But you can see new art, hear music and enjoy refreshments at Hood Avenue Art, Gary Cooley's Collection Gallery, Clearwater Gallery, Ken Scott's Imagination Gallery, Wildflower Studio, Dyrk Godby Gallery, Good Day Cafe, and Antler Arts on the corner of Cascade and Spruce.
